Nestled on the west bank of the Nile in Aswan, the Aga Khan Mausoleum is a striking monument dedicated to Sir Sultan Muhammad Shah Aga Khan III, the 48th Imam of the Nizari Ismaili community. Built with pink limestone and featuring a white Carrara marble tomb inside, the structure exemplifies a blend of strength and elegance. The mausoleum features crenellated parapet walls, a large central dome, and smaller domes on each corner. Designed by Egyptian architect Farid Shafi'e, the mausoleum bears resemblance to the Masjid al-Juyushi, a Fatimid mosque.Sir Sultan Muhammad Shah Aga Khan III was a prominent leader who played a crucial role in advocating for education, social welfare and the upliftment of marginalized communities.
