    Qasr El Nil Bridge, also known as Kasr El Nil Bridge, is a historic landmark in Cairo, Egypt, connecting Tahrir Square in Downtown Cairo on the east bank of the Nile River to the southern end of Gezira Island. The bridge is not only a vital transportation route but also a popular destination for leisurely strolls and offers stunning views of the city skyline.The bridge's history dates back to the late 19th century when Khedive Ismail commissioned the first bridge to span the Nile in central Cairo. This original bridge, named Khedive Ismail Bridge, opened in 1872 but was later replaced in 1933 due to increased traffic. The current Qasr El Nil Bridge was designed by Ralph Anthony Freeman and constructed by Dorman, Long & Co. Ltd, the same British company that built the Sydney Harbour Bridge.One of the bridge's most distinctive features is the four bronze lion statues that stand at its east and west approaches. These statues, sculpted by French artist Henri Alfred Jacquemart, were initially intended for the Giza Zoo but were instead placed on the bridge to honor Khedive Ismail.
