Located in Kharga, the capital of the New Valley Governorate, the New Valley Museum offers a captivating journey through the history of the oases. The museum's collection spans from prehistoric times to the Islamic era, displaying relics unearthed from archaeological sites across the Kharga and Dakhla oases and the wider Western Desert.Visitors can explore a diverse range of artifacts, including prehistoric tools, Pharaonic statues, and pottery. The Graeco-Roman period is well-represented with painted sarcophagi, mummy masks, glass, ceramics and coins. Highlights include the Codes of Kellis, wooden notebooks written in Greek and Coptic. The museum also features Coptic and Islamic antiquities such as icons, books, jewelry and textiles.The museum building itself is modeled on the Coptic tombs of the Bagawat Necropolis. Object labels are provided in both Arabic and English.
