Located in Port Fouad, the Asian side of Port Said Governorate, the Suez Canal Authority Villas stand as a testament to a unique blend of cultures and history. Constructed in 1926 by the French, these villas were originally intended to house the foreign engineers working on the Suez Canal. The area offers visitors a chance to experience a taste of Europe in the heart of Egypt. The architecture is reminiscent of the French countryside, featuring small-sized villas with a pyramid-shaped surface and surrounded by fruitful gardens and low fences. The villas are made of red brick, known for its ability to maintain comfortable temperatures, keeping the houses warm in winter and cool in summer. The streets are narrow, with symmetrical rows of villas on either side, each boasting elevated balconies and a triangular shape when viewed from above. Inside, the villas consist of two stories connected by a wooden staircase. Each room has two doors, creating a maze-like layout. One of these villas was once used as a rest house for President Anwar Sadat, and scenes from the film " أيام السادات " (Days of Sadat) were filmed there. Today, the villas are inhabited by Egyptian employees of the Suez Canal Authority. Visitors enjoy taking photos with the villas, and the location is often used in films and TV series to represent European settings.
