Cairo Tower: A Lotus in the Sky

Cairo Tower, known in Arabic as Borg El-Qāhira, is a free-standing concrete tower located on Gezira Island in the heart of Cairo. Standing at 187 meters (614 feet), it was the tallest structure in Egypt for 37 years. Built between 1956 and 1961, the tower was designed by Egyptian architect Naoum Shebib, who drew inspiration from ancient Egyptian architecture. Its partially open lattice-work design is intended to resemble a pharaonic lotus plant, a symbol of creation and rebirth in ancient Egyptian culture.The tower features a circular observation deck and a revolving restaurant that offers stunning views of greater Cairo. An elevator whisks visitors to the top in just 45 seconds. From the observation deck, you can see the Nile River, the Giza Pyramids, the Sphinx, and the Citadel of Saladin.
