Karnak Temple, located in Luxor, Egypt, is the largest religious structure ever built. Construction began around 2055 BC and continued until around 100 AD, with approximately 30 pharaohs contributing to the complex. Known in ancient times as Ipet-isut (“The Most Select of Places”), it was primarily a cult temple dedicated to the Theban Triad of Amun, Mut, and Khonsu.

Walking
From Luxor city center, Karnak Temple is approximately a 30-minute walk. Head north along the Nile Corniche, enjoying the views of the river. Continue onto Corniche Street, then turn left onto Al Karnak Street. The temple entrance will be on your right. Walking is free, but be prepared for the heat, especially during midday.
Taxi
Taxis are readily available throughout Luxor and are a quick way to reach Karnak Temple. A taxi ride from Luxor city center to Karnak Temple typically takes 5-10 minutes and costs around 50 EGP. Agree on the fare with the driver before starting your journey.
Public Transport
Local microbuses (vans) also operate between Luxor city center and Karnak. These are a very affordable option. Head to the main microbus station in Luxor and look for a bus heading to Karnak. The fare is only a few EGP. Be aware that microbuses can be crowded.
