From the Temple of Seti I, the Osireion is located directly behind it. Walk towards the rear of the temple complex. The Osireion is visible from an elevated vantage point. There is no additional cost to view the Osireion from this area.
Public Transport

From Sohag, take a bus or microbus towards Al Balyana. From Al Balyana, the site is accessible by taxi or local transport. Negotiate the fare before starting your journey. A taxi from Al Balyana to Abydos will cost approximately 50-75 EGP. Confirm with the driver that they can take you to the Temple of Seti I, behind which the Osireion is located.

The Osireion, also spelled Osirion, stands as one of ancient Egypt's most enigmatic structures, located in Abydos. Situated to the rear of the Mortuary Temple of Seti I, this megalithic construction has puzzled archaeologists and historians since its rediscovery. The structure is believed to be a cenotaph, or symbolic tomb, of Pharaoh Seti I, who ruled during the 13th century BC. However, some theories suggest it may predate his reign.The Osireion's design is unique, differing significantly from typical Egyptian architecture. Built at a lower level than the Temple of Seti I, it features massive blocks of red granite, some weighing up to 100 tons, transported from Aswan, about 500 miles away. The central hall contains a stone-paved 'island' surrounded by a water channel, possibly symbolizing the primeval waters of creation in Egyptian mythology. The hall is supported by large granite pillars, and the structure is accessed via a 69-meter stone-lined passage.While the Osireion is closed to visitors, it can be viewed from the rear of Seti's temple.
