Discover more about Gasadalur

Gasadalur, meaning "Goose Valley," is a captivating village on the western edge of Vágar Island in the Faroe Islands. Until 2004, it was one of the most isolated settlements in the Faroes, accessible only by a strenuous hike over high mountains or by boat. The construction of the Gásadalstunnilin tunnel dramatically changed this, connecting the village to the rest of the island by road. The village is surrounded by towering mountains, including Árnafjall, the highest peak on Vágar, offering panoramic views. However, Gasadalur's main draw is undoubtedly the Múlafossur Waterfall. This iconic waterfall cascades over a cliff edge and directly into the North Atlantic Ocean, creating a breathtaking spectacle. Despite its newfound accessibility, Gasadalur has retained its charm and tranquility. Visitors can explore the village's traditional grass-roofed houses, experience the unspoiled nature, and enjoy the cozy atmosphere. There is a café serving local Faroese food. For those seeking a more challenging adventure, the old postman's route over the mountains remains a rewarding hiking option.
