Glims Farmstead Museum offers a captivating glimpse into Finland's rural past. Situated in the Karvasmäki village of Espoo, the museum occupies a site inhabited since the Stone Age. Glims itself appeared in documents in the 16th century and served as a working farm until the early 20th century. For periods between 1778-1822 and 1891-1901, it also functioned as an inn and hostelry. The museum opened in 1958. The museum comprises 11 original buildings, with the oldest, the storage shed and main building, dating back to the 18th century. These buildings create an authentic farmyard setting, offering insights into the daily lives of those who lived and worked here. Roam through the farmhouse, imagine travelers resting by the bread oven, and discover the traditions of agrarian Espoo. Visitors can explore exhibits and events throughout the year. During the summer, domestic animals populate the museum grounds, and traditional farm plants grow in the yard. The museum also provides guided tours and seasonal workshops. In winter, you might even spot an elf ! The museum also has a shop and a café in a former henhouse.
