Discover more about Helsinki Central Park

Helsinki Central Park (Keskuspuisto) is a nearly 10-kilometer-long green space that extends from the city center in Laakso to the northern border of Helsinki at the Vantaanjoki River. Established in 1914, the park's origins lie in a plan by architect Bertel Jung in 1911. The park provides a diverse landscape, including forests, meadows and recreational paths. The park is not heavily gardened, but instead consists of lightly managed woodland crisscrossed by gravel paths. The diverse nature includes old spruce forests, herb-rich groves, grasslands, meadows and rocky crags dating back to the Ice Age. The park offers various recreational facilities, including walking paths, cycling routes, and cross-country skiing tracks in winter. Several protected areas are located in the northern part of the park, such as the Pitkäkoski grove, Haltiala primeval forest, Niskala arboretum, Ruutinkoski rapids and the Vantaanjoki riverbank. Central Park is a popular destination for outdoor activities and relaxation. It provides a peaceful environment for hiking, jogging, cycling and other recreational pursuits. The park also features cafes and restaurants, offering refreshments and meals for visitors. The Ruskeasuo Equestrian Hall, also called the Olympic Manège, was constructed in the late 1930s when Finland was chosen to host the 1940 Summer Olympics. The stables next to the equestrian hall house Finland's oldest horse riding school, Keskustalli, as well as Helsinki's only police horses.
