Discover more about Kamppi Chapel

The Kamppi Chapel, or Chapel of Silence, is located on Narinkka Square in the Kamppi neighborhood, one of the busiest areas in Helsinki. Completed in 2012 as part of the World Design Capital program, the chapel was designed by architects Mikko Summanen, Niko Sirola, and Kimmo Lintula of K2S Architects. The chapel stands as an ecumenical space, welcoming all visitors regardless of background or beliefs, seeking a moment of peace. The chapel's design is both striking and serene. The exterior features a curved facade constructed from Finnish spruce, creating a warm and inviting presence in the urban landscape. The wood is treated with a special wax using nanotechnology. Inside, the minimalist design continues with alder wood walls, ash wood furnishings, and a simple cross. The ceiling is made of plasterboard to enhance soundproofing, ensuring a quiet and contemplative atmosphere. The chapel's unique acoustic design further isolates the interior from the surrounding city noise. The chapel does not host regular religious services; instead, it offers a space for personal reflection and quiet contemplation. Staffed by both parish and social services employees, the chapel also provides a place for personal discussions and support. Visitors can find respite from the urban bustle and enjoy a moment of silence in this architectural gem.
