Lonna Sauna is a public sauna located on the small island of Lonna, a short ferry ride from Helsinki's Market Square. The island itself has a rich history, having served as a military site, including a demagnetization station for ships during wartime. Today, Lonna offers a peaceful retreat where visitors can enjoy a traditional Finnish sauna experience with a modern twist.The sauna building was designed by architect Anssi Lassila and completed in 2016. It features a handcrafted wooden log structure and a sculptural zinc-plated roof, blending seamlessly with the island's historical military structures. Inside, wood-burning stoves heat the steam rooms, creating an authentic and relaxing atmosphere. Large windows offer panoramic views of the sea and the Helsinki skyline.Lonna Island is small, only about 150 meters long, making it easy to explore on foot. Besides the sauna, the island features a restaurant and café, perfect for enjoying a meal or refreshments while taking in the scenery. The island's rocky shores and grassy areas provide ample space for picnicking and relaxation. Lonna hosts various events during the summer months, including live music and cultural gatherings.
