Discover more about Sipoonkorpi National Park

Sipoonkorpi National Park, Finnish for 'Sipoo wilderness', is a treasure trove of natural beauty located a mere 20 kilometers from Helsinki's city center. Established in 2011, it protects a large, cohesive forest area from urbanization, offering a unique opportunity to experience the tranquility of southern Finland's forest landscape within the Helsinki metropolitan area. The park's landscape is characterized by diverse forests, including ancient coniferous stands and lush groves, interspersed with bogs, wetlands, rocky hills, and ravines. While lakes are scarce, Bisajärvi, Fiskträsk and Storträsk are worth a visit. The area has been used for centuries, with traces of early settlements dating back to the 13th century. Historically, the area was influenced by Hovgård Manor, and farming continues in Hindsby village to this day. Sipoonkorpi is home to a variety of wildlife, including moose, white-tailed deer, foxes, badgers, flying squirrels, bats, and numerous bird species like the emblematic eagle owl. The park offers various activities, including hiking on marked trails, cycling, berry and mushroom picking in autumn, and bird watching. Popular attractions include Storträsk Lake, Högberget viewpoint, and the Byabäcken riverside grove. Several trails cater to different fitness levels, such as the Byabäcken Nature Trail, Burner's Trail, and Kalkinpolttajanpolku Trail. Visitors are encouraged to follow sustainable tourism principles, staying on marked trails, leaving no litter, respecting the tranquility of nature, and keeping pets on a leash. Campfires are permitted only at designated fire pits, and camping is allowed near campfire sites at Ängesböle, Bisajärvi, Fiskträsk, and Bakunkärr, as well as by the lean-to shelter at Kalkkiruukki.
