Discover more about Porvoon museo, Holmin talo

The Holmin Talo, a part of the Porvoon Museo, offers a fascinating glimpse into the life of a prosperous 18th-century merchant in Porvoo. Constructed after the Great Fire of Porvoo in 1760, the house was built with bricks, a sign of wealth at the time. Originally, the house featured a mansard roof and an entrance from the courtyard. The lower floor was used for business, while the family resided upstairs. In the 19th century, bakers and Swiss confectioners operated in the building, leading to the opening of a new door on the market side. The second floor of the house, once home to the Holm family, features a hall, a salon, a gentleman's room, a bedroom, and a kitchen chamber. The rooms are furnished in the style of the period, and scents and sounds enhance the atmosphere. Dolls dressed in period clothing add to the exhibits. In addition to the Holmin Talo, the courtyard includes two smaller residential buildings and several outbuildings. The Porvoon Museo itself was founded in 1897 and is the regional museum for Eastern Uusimaa. It is housed in the Porvoo Town Hall, built in 1764. The museum's collection was established in 1896, and it was named the Eastern Uusimaa Provincial Museum in 1982. In 2020, it became a regional museum.
