August Eklöf Park, located near the center of Porvoo, is a harmonious blend of natural beauty and historical significance. Situated between the Porvoo River and the residential buildings of the western shore, the park provides a tranquil escape for both locals and tourists. The park's history is intertwined with August Eklöf (1837-1912), a significant figure in Porvoo's industrial development. The area where the park now stands was once part of Eklöf's industrial area, which included sawmills, factories, and forests. The park is named in his honor, recognizing his contributions to the city. The park is divided into three sections, each with its own unique character. The northern section, completed in 2005, lies between Mannerheiminkatu and the pedestrian bridge. In 2009, a section was added to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Diet of Porvoo, featuring a triptych by Kirsi Kaulanen and Ylva Holländer that symbolizes Sweden, Russia, and Finland. A memorial plaque honoring Georg Magnus Sprengtporten, the first Governor-General of autonomous Finland, is also located in this area. The southern part was renovated and opened to the public in 2023. The park also features boat-shaped planting areas with colorful summer flowers and climbing posts. Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities in the park, from leisurely strolls along the winding paths to picnics on the expansive lawns. The park's design incorporates arches and columns, echoing the style of the nearby Runeberg Park.
