Helsinki Tram Museum: A Ride Through History

The Helsinki Tram Museum, a branch of the Helsinki City Museum, invites visitors to explore the captivating history of Helsinki's tram transport. Located in the Taka-Töölö district, the museum resides within the city's oldest tram depot, constructed in 1900. Architect Waldemar Aspelin designed the hall, which initially served as a stable and workshop for horse-drawn carriages. The museum showcases the evolution of Helsinki's tram system, beginning with horse-drawn trams. The collection includes six tram cars, the oldest being a horse-drawn car from the late 19th century. Visitors can also see an open-backed car used during the 1952 Helsinki Olympics. Exhibits feature artifacts, paintings, and a scale model of Helsinki from the 1870s. The 'Sisulaattori' tram simulator allows guests to experience being a tram driver or conductor, traveling through different eras of Helsinki's history. A play area lets children and adults stamp tickets and explore a map of Helsinki. Informative displays detail the history of trams and their impact on the city. The museum is located within the Korjaamo Culture Factory, which hosts various cultural events, including theater, visual arts, and music. The venue also includes a restaurant and a mini-library.
