Discover more about Lenin Park

Lenin Park, or Lenininpuisto in Finnish, presents a unique blend of natural beauty and historical context in the heart of Helsinki. The park's origins trace back to the early 1960s when a section of Alppipuisto Park was transformed into a gardening exhibition area. In 1970, it was named Lenin Park to mark the 100th anniversary of Vladimir Lenin's birth. Despite its somewhat controversial name, the park is a beloved green space featuring diverse plant life, slate paths, and a small stream that flows into a basin. A Japanese walnut tree graces the pond, and many rare plants from the original gardening exhibition still thrive. The park offers impressive views, especially from the Linnanmäki entrance. Lenin Park provides a peaceful atmosphere for leisurely strolls and picnics. While some visitors note noise from the adjacent Linnanmäki amusement park, many find the park a relaxing escape. The park was fenced off at night until the 1990s, but now it remains open to all. Restoration efforts are underway to preserve the park's original design and botanical diversity.
