Located on Bulevardi in Helsinki, the Sinebrychoff Art Museum is dedicated to preserving and exhibiting old European art. As part of the Finnish National Gallery, the museum's collections feature works dating from the 14th to the 19th centuries. The museum is situated in a building constructed in 1842 as the home and headquarters for the Sinebrychoff family's brewery business. The family, particularly Paul and Fanny Sinebrychoff, were avid art collectors, and their passion shaped the museum's core. In 1921, they donated their extensive collection to the Finnish government, marking it as the largest art donation in Finland's history. The building itself opened as a historic house museum in the same year. In 1975, the government acquired the entire building and, following renovations, reopened it as a museum in 1980. The Sinebrychoff Art Museum is not only an art museum but also a historic house museum, where visitors can explore the 19th-century estate of the Sinebrychoff family. The museum's collections include Swedish portrait art, Dutch and Flemish art from the 17th century, and Italian and French paintings. Among its treasures are Finland's largest collection of portrait miniatures and the only Rembrandt painting in the country, "The Monk Reading". The museum also hosts temporary exhibitions. Visiting the Sinebrychoff Art Museum offers a glimpse into the lives of a prominent family and the art they cherished. The carefully curated elements, such as velvet curtains, crystal chandeliers, plants, and furniture from the home museum's collection, accentuate the period feel.
