Rukatunturi: Finland's Premier Ski and Outdoor Adventure Destination

Rukatunturi, rising 492 meters high, is more than just a fell; it's a vibrant ski resort and outdoor activity center located in Kuusamo, Finland. Since the opening of its first slope in 1954, Ruka has grown into a diverse tourist destination that attracts visitors year-round. In winter, Ruka boasts 41 slopes and 21 ski lifts, including high-speed detachable chairs and a gondola, ensuring access for all skill levels. With snowmaking on all runs, Ruka offers one of the longest ski seasons in Europe, often starting in October and lasting until June. Night skiing is also available on Fridays. Beyond downhill skiing, Ruka features over 500 km of cross-country skiing tracks and snowmobile routes. As the snow melts, Ruka transforms into a haven for hikers and mountain bikers, offering access to the stunning Oulanka National Park and the southern end of the 80 km Karhunkierros hiking trail. Summer activities include canoeing, white water rafting, fishing, and bear watching. In 2025, a new fell roller coaster was introduced, adding to the summer fun. Ruka village provides a pedestrian-friendly center with hotels, restaurants, and shops close to the slopes. An underground car park with heated spaces ensures convenient access. Ruka also hosts various competitions, including Nordic skiing World Cup events, and national alpine and freestyle skiing competitions.
