Discover more about Elving Tower

Elving Tower, a prominent landmark in the Vuohijärvi area, stands as a testament to both practical ingenuity and scenic appreciation. Constructed between 1905 and 1907 by Rudolf Bernhard Elving, a mining councilor, its original purpose was to protect the surrounding forests by serving as a fire watchtower and to control unauthorized fishing and hunting. Elving also used the tower to showcase the beautiful views to his guests. During the wars, the tower was repurposed as an air surveillance post. After a fire in the 1950s, the tower fell into disrepair until the Valkeala Lions Club and the Kymi Company restored it and reopened it to the public in 1995. Today, the over 20-meter-high tower offers visitors a magnificent view of the surrounding Kymenlaakso wilderness and Repovesi National Park. The tower is open to the public on summer weekends, typically from mid-May to the end of September. A small entrance fee is charged. Parking is available at the base of the tower. Nearby attractions include the Vuohijärvi Nature and Culture House and Repovesi National Park.
