Katariina Seaside Park: Kotka's Coastal Gem

Katariina Seaside Park, a cherished jewel among Kotka's parks, offers breathtaking views from its stunning peninsula location. This 20-hectare park is built around the ruins of the 18th-century Svensksund fortress, blending history with natural beauty. Once the site of an oil harbor, it has been transformed into a maritime park with a feeling of spaciousness and freedom. The park features a vast meadow, perfect for picnics and outdoor games, as well as a Moomin-themed playground for children. Active visitors can enjoy frisbee baskets, a parkour track, and a skateboarding ramp. For those seeking tranquility, the park offers a meditation labyrinth modeled after the medieval Chartres Cathedral, with a 525-meter walk to the center. A place of silence on a rock island, accessible by a small bridge, provides a peaceful retreat with an old sailing ship anchor from the 19th century. Art and craftsmanship adorn the park, including the 28 oak soldiers commemorating the Battle of Svensksund and miniature models of lighthouses. The park also has a stone picnic table that can seat 50 people.
