Discover more about Kirsikkapuisto

Kirsikkapuisto is located in the Asemantausta district of Lahti, adjacent to Laune Central Park. The park came to life thanks to the active participation of Lahti residents, who voted overwhelmingly for its creation in the city's first participatory budgeting initiative in 2020. Construction began in the spring of 2021, with the Hokkaido-Suomi association donating 25 cherry trees to the project. The park's design emphasizes accessibility, with wheelchair-friendly pathways winding through the grounds. Kirsikkapuisto is bordered by Yläportinkatu, Kaarikatu, and Kullankaari streets. The park's location next to Laune Central Park provides visitors with easy access to the arboretum and family park. The cherry trees are the park's main attraction, offering a spectacular display of blossoms in the late spring, typically around the end of May. The park features Rusokirsikka (Prunus sargentii) and Koristekirsikka (Prunus 'Accolade') cherry tree varieties, known for their beautiful pink flowers. In the autumn, the trees' foliage provides a vibrant display of fall colors. The trees are planted 6-8 meters apart to allow for their canopy to expand, eventually creating a canopy-like effect. Kirsikkapuisto is more than just a collection of cherry trees; it's a place for the community to gather and appreciate nature. Visitors are welcome to bring dogs to the park, but they must be kept on a leash. While there is no dedicated parking area, the park is easily accessible by public transportation, bicycle, or on foot.
