Kymmenen neitsyttä, or Ten Virgins, is a captivating piece of public art gracing the exterior of the Joutjärvi Church in Lahti. Created in 1963 by Finnish sculptor Pentti Papinaho, the bronze relief is a powerful interpretation of the biblical parable of the ten virgins. The sculpture depicts ten women in a row, with the first five carrying lamps with flames, representing the wise virgins from the Bible story. The angular and sharp forms of the figures effectively convey the tone and nature of the parable. Papinaho, known for his public reliefs and monuments, often incorporated both figurative and abstract elements into his work. The Joutjärvi Church, designed by architect Unto Ojonen, was completed in 1962. Papinaho created both Kymmenen neitsyttä and the altar relief, Golgata, for the church in 1963. The church is located in the Möysä district of Lahti and serves the eastern inner city neighborhoods.
