Getting There

  • Car

    The primary access point to Vaskijärvi Strict Nature Reserve is by car. From Turku, drive north on Route 204, then follow signs to Yläne and Mynämäki road (no. 2020). The reserve is located 40 km from Turku and 10 km northwest of Kurjenrahka National Park. The only parking area is Elijärvenkulma parking area (Honkilahdentie 303) which has space for about ten cars. Parking is free. Note that there may be delays in snow plowing during the winter.

  • Public Transport

    To reach Vaskijärvi Strict Nature Reserve via public transport, take a bus from Turku to Pöytyä. From Pöytyä, you would need to take a taxi or arrange for local transportation to the Elijärvenkulma parking area, as there is no direct public transport to the reserve itself. Bus fare from Turku to Pöytyä ranges from €4-€6. A taxi from Pöytyä to the reserve (approximately 20km) will cost approximately €40-€60.

Vaskijärvi Strict Nature Reserve, located in Southwestern Finland, is a protected area established in 1956 to conserve the region's valuable natural features. The reserve covers approximately 10 square kilometers (4 square miles) and is characterized by its rugged landscape and rich biodiversity. Situated near Kurjenrahka National Park, Vaskijärvi offers visitors a tranquil escape into a wilderness-like environment. The landscape features a diverse range of habitats, including marshland, forests, and lakes such as Kajavajärvi, Vähä-Valanen and Iso-Valanen. The lake Vaskijärvi, from which the park gets its name, is located just outside the park's southeastern boundary. The area is home to plant species typical of marshes, such as marsh tea, cloudberry and various mosses. The reserve also provides a habitat for various bird species, including the Common Crane, Osprey, and Black Grouse. Mammals such as the Common Otter and the Siberian Flying Squirrel also inhabit the area. The reserve offers several hiking trails, including the 14 km Vaskijärvi Nature Trail, which loops through varied landscapes. Please note that during the snow-free season, only marked trails may be used without a special permit. Camping is prohibited within the strict nature reserve, but is allowed along the Vaskijärvi Trail outside the reserve boundaries.
