Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car, start from the city center of Joensuu. Head northeast on Route 6 towards Nurmes for about 45 kilometers. After reaching the town of Kitee, continue on Route 6 until you reach the junction for Route 73. Turn right onto Route 73 and follow it for approximately 30 kilometers. Look for signs directing you to Naarva. Once in Naarva, turn onto Hatuntie, where you will find Katajapuro Waterfall located at Hatuntie 638. There is free parking available near the waterfall.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Katajapuro Waterfall using public transportation, start by taking a bus from Joensuu to Kitee. Buses are available from the Joensuu bus station and the journey takes around 1 hour and 15 minutes. Once in Kitee, transfer to a local bus heading to Naarva. Ensure to check the schedule as the frequency can vary. After arriving in Naarva, walk about 1.5 kilometers along Hatuntie to reach the waterfall. Note that you may need to arrange transportation for the last stretch from Kitee to Naarva, as local services can be limited.

• Bicycle

  If you're an adventurous cyclist, you can bike to Katajapuro Waterfall. Starting from Joensuu, take Route 6 towards Kitee. The distance is approximately 75 kilometers, so be prepared for a long ride. Follow Route 73 toward Naarva. It’s advisable to check the weather and road conditions ahead of your trip. Once in Naarva, you can easily access Hatuntie and the waterfall. Remember to carry enough water and snacks for the journey.
