Look for signs indicating 'Koivusuo' or use GPS coordinates 62.97271, 31.4147. The reserve is approximately 30 kilometers from Ilomantsi, a drive of about 30 minutes. Several parking areas provide access to different trails. Parking is free. Be aware that roads may suffer from frost heave in April.

    To get to Koivusuo Strict Nature Reserve via public transport, take a bus from Joensuu to Ilomantsi. Buses from Joensuu to Ilomantsi run every three hours and the journey takes approximately 1 hour 18 minutes. Check the Matkahuolto website for the most up-to-date bus schedules. From Ilomantsi, you will need to take a taxi or arrange for a local shuttle to the nature reserve, as public transport does not directly serve the reserve.
