Car
If you are traveling by car, start from the center of Joensuu, North Karelia. Head southwest on route 6 (E63) towards Kitee. Continue on this road for approximately 90 kilometers until you reach the town of Kitee. From Kitee, take road 77 towards the north and follow it for about 30 kilometers. You will see signs for Mount Sampo as you get closer. Turn onto the local road leading to the mountain. There is parking available at the base of Mount Sampo, though parking fees may apply, typically around €5 for the day.

To reach Mount Sampo using public transportation, start by taking a bus from Joensuu to Kitee. Buses run frequently and the journey takes about 1.5 hours. Upon arriving in Kitee, transfer to a local bus heading towards the village of Rääkkylä. Get off at the stop closest to Mount Sampo. Note that public transport schedules may vary, so it's advisable to check the local bus timetable in advance. Once you reach the area, you may have to walk a short distance to reach the foot of the mountain. Be prepared for a walk of about 1-2 kilometers, depending on the bus stop you get off at.
