Heisanharju Ridge, situated in the northern part of Kouvola, is a captivating nature reserve renowned for its breathtaking landscapes and serene environment. Heisanharju is an esker, a ridge made of sand and gravel deposited by a glacier. Surrounded by lakes such as Vähä-Luotojärvi, Heisanjärvi and Kelesjärvi, the area is a valuable habitat for plants and animals. Birdwatchers may spot species such as the black-throated loon, black woodpecker, raven, swan, black grouse and wood grouse. The approximately 3 km long Heisanharju outdoor trail runs along the eskers, making it ideal for families. The trail is easy to walk and has almost no elevation changes. Along the way, there is a campfire site with a wood supply, a dry toilet, a well, a table with benches, a pier and a swimming ladder. In winter, animal tracks, from hares to elks, can be seen in the snow.
