The estate's name, Pierreclos, comes from the 6th century, derived from “Petra Clausa,” signifying “Clos de Pierre,” a rocky spur cultivated with vines. Initially owned by the canons of Saint-Vincent de Mâcon and later by Benedictine monks of Cluny Abbey, the estate boasts a rich heritage.The castle itself saw a golden age during the Renaissance under the Rougemont family. Over the centuries, it has been a stronghold, a noble residence, and a site of both conflict and hospitality. The Pidault family acquired the estate in 1989, transforming it into the renowned winery it is today.
