Discover more about France Galop

Deauville-La Touques Racecourse, managed by France Galop, stands as a testament to the enduring allure of horse racing and the rich history of Deauville itself. Established in 1864 by the visionary Duke of Morny, the racecourse quickly became a focal point of the burgeoning seaside resort, predating even the construction of the town's church. This prioritization underscores the integral role that equestrian pursuits played in shaping Deauville's identity as a playground for high society. From its inception, the Deauville-La Touques Racecourse has been synonymous with elegance, tradition, and sporting excellence. The Anglo-Norman architectural style of the weighing room and other buildings evokes a sense of timeless charm, transporting visitors back to an era when horse racing was as much a social event as it was a competition. The racecourse's proximity to the sea adds to its unique character, with the cries of seagulls often mingling with the thundering hooves of thoroughbreds. The racecourse spans 70 hectares, featuring multiple tracks to accommodate various racing styles and conditions. Two grass tracks, one a right-handed course of 2,200 meters and the other a straight-line track of 1,600 meters, provide ideal surfaces for summer racing. In 2003, Deauville-La Touques became the first racecourse in France to install an all-weather track, ensuring year-round racing opportunities. This 2,100-meter sand fiber track allows for winter races and provides a consistent training surface regardless of weather conditions. The highlight of the Deauville-La Touques racing calendar is undoubtedly the Meeting de Deauville Barrière, held each August. During this prestigious event, the racecourse comes alive with a vibrant atmosphere, attracting top horses, jockeys, trainers, and owners from around the world. The meeting features several Group 1 races, showcasing the highest level of competition in the sport. Beyond the races themselves, the Meeting de Deauville Barrière offers a unique social experience, with high society gatherings, yearling sales, and opportunities to witness thoroughbreds training on Deauville beach in the early morning. Beyond the summer racing season, Deauville-La Touques hosts races in the autumn and winter, ensuring a year-round calendar of equestrian events. The racecourse also serves as a training center, with approximately 400 racehorses stabled on-site throughout the year, a number that swells to 700 during the peak summer months. This constant presence of equine athletes adds to the racecourse's vibrant atmosphere and reinforces its commitment to the sport. Visitors to Deauville-La Touques can enjoy a variety of amenities and services, including restaurants, souvenir shops, and an initiation area where newcomers can learn about the intricacies of horse racing and betting. The panoramic restaurant, Little Manjo, offers stunning views of the track, while the Brasserie du Fer a Cheval provides a more casual dining experience. The racecourse also offers free Wi-Fi, disabled access, and family-friendly entertainment, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable experience for all.
