Discover more about Church of Our Lady of Good Voyage

The Church of Our Lady of Good Voyage, or Notre-Dame de Bon Voyage, stands as a serene landmark in the heart of Cannes. Located on Place Mérimée, near the bustling Palais des Festivals, this Catholic church provides a tranquil respite from the city's vibrant atmosphere. Originally a 15th-century chapel and fishermen's shelter known as Notre-Dame des Sables (Our Lady of the Sands), it later became Notre-Dame de Bon Port before evolving into the current Church of Our Lady of Good Voyage at the end of the 19th century. Architect Laurent Vianey designed the church in its present Romanesque-inspired style, consecrated in 1879. The church has a rich history; it was the first stop for Emperor Napoleon upon his return from Elba in 1815. A plaque on Rue Bivouac-Napoléon commemorates this event. The church's interior features ornate statues and stained-glass windows that depict scenes from Cannes' history. The play of light through the stained glass creates a kaleidoscope of colors, adding to the serene ambiance. The main door is a work of art designed by ceramist Roger Capron. Organ and choral concerts are held, adding to the church's atmosphere. Recent restoration efforts have cleaned and repaired the stained glass, vaults, and columns, as well as restored the monumental chandelier and repaired the facade. Whether drawn by faith, history, or art, visitors can find a unique glimpse into the spiritual life of Cannes within the walls of the Church of Our Lady of Good Voyage.
