Pont Jacques Gabriel: An Elegant Span Across the Loire

The Pont Jacques Gabriel, an elegant stone bridge, has spanned the Loire River in Blois since the early 18th century. Named after Jacques Gabriel, the architect behind its design, the bridge is a testament to French engineering and architectural style of the period. Its construction was initiated to replace a medieval bridge that collapsed in 1716 due to severe flooding.The bridge is composed of 11 arches and stretches 283 meters in length, distinguished as the last remaining arch bridge over the Loire with a pointed design. Over the centuries, the Pont Jacques Gabriel has faced numerous challenges, including partial destruction during the Franco-Prussian War and both World Wars. Each time, it was meticulously rebuilt, a symbol of Blois's resilience.
