    From the Besançon Viotte train station, the Frac Franche-Comté is approximately a 25-minute walk. Head northeast on Avenue Viotte, then turn left onto Rue de la République. Continue onto Quai Veil Picard, then turn right onto Passage des Arts. The Cité des Arts will be on your left.

    The Frac Franche-Comté, established in 1982, is a regional contemporary art fund committed to promoting and sharing modern art. Since 2013, it has been located in the Cité des Arts in Besançon, a cultural hub that also houses the CRR Regional Conservatoire music academy. The Cité des Arts, designed by Kengo Kuma, reflects the surrounding landscape while staying rooted in the city's history. The building incorporates a refurbished brick section from the old river port, blending modern design with historical elements.The Frac's collection includes paintings, drawings, photographs, sculptures, videos, and installations. Since 2006, the collection's central theme has been time, resonating with the region's history and sparking dialogue with the Conservatoire du Grand Besançon. The Frac organizes temporary exhibitions within the Cité des Arts and also disseminates its works through schools, partner institutions, and its mobile exhibition space, Le Satellite. These exhibitions feature works from the Frac collection, as well as pieces borrowed from other collections or created specifically for the exhibitions.The Frac Franche-Comté also hosts a variety of events, including meetings with artists, conferences, performances, video nights, and concerts. The Frac emphasizes guiding the public through their discovery of contemporary art, providing resources such as exhibition booklets and activities for visitors of all abilities.
