Getting There

  • Car

    If you are traveling by car, the Besançon Citadel is located at 99 Rue des Fusillés de la Résistance, 25000 Besançon. From the A36 motorway, take exit 4 for Besançon. Follow signs for 'Centre Ville' and then 'Citadelle'. You will find parking near the entrance. Be aware that parking fees may apply, typically around €1.50 per hour.

  • Public Transportation - Train

    To reach Besançon by train, you can take a TGV or regional train to Besançon Viotte station. Once you arrive, exit the station and look for the bus stop located directly outside. You can take Bus Line 1 (Direction: 'Citadelle') which will take you close to the Citadel. The bus fare is around €1.20. The Citadel is a short walk from the bus stop.

  • Public Transportation - Tram

    Another option is to take the tram from various points in Besançon. You can board Line 1 at any tram stop and travel towards 'Gare Viotte'. Once you reach the 'Gare Viotte' stop, transfer to Bus Line 1 towards 'Citadelle'. The combined tram and bus fare will be approximately €1.50.

    If you find yourself in the city center of Besançon, the Citadel is within walking distance. It is approximately a 30-minute walk from the city center.
