Car

If you are traveling by car, the Besançon Citadel is located at 99 Rue des Fusillés de la Résistance, 25000 Besançon. From the A36 motorway, take exit 4 for Besançon. Follow signs for 'Centre Ville' and then 'Citadelle'. You will find parking near the entrance. Be aware that parking fees may apply, typically around €1.50 per hour.

Public Transportation - Train

To reach Besançon by train, you can take a TGV or regional train to Besançon Viotte station. Once you arrive, exit the station and look for the bus stop located directly outside. You can take Bus Line 1 (Direction: 'Citadelle') which will take you close to the Citadel. The bus fare is around €1.20. The Citadel is a short walk from the bus stop.

Public Transportation - Tram

Another option is to take the tram from various points in Besançon. You can board Line 1 at any tram stop and travel towards 'Gare Viotte'. Once you reach the 'Gare Viotte' stop, transfer to Bus Line 1 towards 'Citadelle'. The combined tram and bus fare will be approximately €1.50.

Walking

If you find yourself in the city center of Besançon, the Citadel is within walking distance. It is approximately a 30-minute walk from the city center. Head east on Rue de la République, then follow Rue des Granges and continue towards Rue des Fusillés de la Résistance. The path is well-marked with signs directing you to the Citadel.
