Les Portes du Soleil, meaning "The Doors of the Sun," is one of the world's largest international ski areas, straddling the border between France and Switzerland. The name "Portes du Soleil" was adopted in 1965, and the first international ski pass was introduced in 1969, connecting Avoriaz and Champéry.
