Discover more about Château De Flaugergues

Château de Flaugergues, a stunning example of a 'folie Montpelliéraine,' stands as a testament to the aristocratic lifestyle of 17th and 18th-century Montpellier. These 'folies' were country estates built by the city's wealthy, and Flaugergues, dating back to 1696, is one of the most well-preserved. Étienne de Flaugergues, a member of the local financial court, purchased the land and began building the mansion, dedicating 45 years to its creation. The château has remained in the same family for over three centuries and is currently owned by the Colbert family. The estate is recognized as a Monument Historique and boasts meticulously manicured French gardens with nearly 10,000 box trees and a landscaped park featuring exotic species. Inside, visitors can admire period furniture from the 17th and 18th centuries, antique engravings, paintings, and ornamental objects. The estate also operates as a winery, producing 160,000 bottles annually. Visitors can explore the vineyard, cellar, and participate in wine tastings.
