Mont Saint-Michel's history dates back to 708 AD when Aubert, Bishop of Avranches, built an oratory on Mont-Tombe in honor of the Archangel Michael. The site quickly became a pilgrimage destination and continued to gain religious significance over the centuries.

During the 10th century, Benedictine monks settled on the island, transforming it into a renowned center of learning and spirituality. Alternatively, you can drive directly to the site; parking is available about 2.5 kilometers away from the island, and shuttle buses are provided to take visitors to the entrance.

Shuttle buses and horse-drawn carriages (maringote) are available to transport visitors from the parking area to the entrance of the island.
