Constructed between the late 16th and early 17th centuries, possibly around 1570, its name derives from its distinctive facade adorned with diamond-point bossage, a style reminiscent of Medici-era architecture in Italy.Commissioned by wealthy Italian and Spanish traders, the Maison Diamantée has housed prominent Marseille families like the Saboulin Bollena and Castellane Majastre. It later served as a residence for port employees and Italian immigrants, reflecting the city's diverse social fabric. The building has had many uses over the years, including a museum and administrative offices.Classified as a French historical monument in 1925, the Maison Diamantée narrowly escaped destruction during World War II. Today, while not open for public tours, visitors can still admire its magnificent staircase and unique exterior while exploring the historic Panier district.
