Discover more about Subé Fountain

The Subé Fountain, located in the heart of Reims on Place Drouet d'Erlon, is more than just a water feature; it's a testament to the city's rich history and artistic spirit. Inaugurated in 1906, the fountain was commissioned thanks to the generosity of Auguste Subé and designed by André Najoux. The fountain replaced a statue of Marshall Drouet d'Erlon. The fountain's design showcases the Art Nouveau style, with flowing lines and organic forms. At the center stands a bronze statue of a woman, symbolizing the city of Reims, surrounded by allegorical figures representing agriculture, commerce, and the arts. These figures embody the aspirations of Reims at the turn of the century. Four statues around the pedestal represent the region's rivers: Marne, Vesle, Suippe, and Aisne. Miraculously, the Subé Fountain survived the devastation of World War I, becoming a symbol of hope for the city's residents. In 1941, German forces removed the original bronze victory statue, which was replaced in 1989 with a new golden angel figure. Today, the fountain is a popular meeting point and a starting point for exploring Reims' attractions. At night, the fountain is beautifully illuminated, creating a magical atmosphere.
