Discover more about Môle des Noires

The Môle des Noires, an iconic pier in Saint-Malo, extends 520 meters into the sea, marking the entrance to the port. Constructed between 1837 and 1842, it was built from granite from Chausey on a foundation of dark rocks, known as 'les Noires,' which give the pier its name. Originally 275 meters long, the pier was significantly extended between 1932 and 1933, nearly doubling its length. During World War II, German troops sabotaged the structure in 1944; however, it was reconstructed after the war. The lighthouse at the end of the pier was rebuilt in 1959. Today, the Môle des Noires serves as a popular promenade, offering visitors panoramic views of Saint-Malo, the English Channel, and the surrounding coastline. It's also a key point for launching the city's fireworks displays.
