Discover more about Square Louise-Weiss

Square Louise-Weiss, nestled in the heart of Strasbourg's picturesque Petite France, offers a tranquil escape from the city's hustle and bustle. This verdant space, bordered by the Quai de la Petite France and the Ill river, provides a delightful blend of natural beauty and historical significance. Once the site of industrial activity with wood and coal warehouses and a tannery in the late 19th century, the area was transformed into a park in 1972, initially named Square des Ponts-Couverts. In 1989, it was renamed in honor of Louise Weiss (1893-1983), a French author, journalist, feminist, and member of the European Parliament. A bronze plaque featuring a medallion of Louise Weiss by Paul Belmondo commemorates her historical role. Today, Square Louise-Weiss invites visitors to stroll along its serene pathways, admire the vibrant flower beds, and relax on its manicured lawns. The park also features a sculpture by Marc Linder erected in 1993. It's a popular spot for locals and tourists alike, offering a peaceful ambiance and picturesque views of the surrounding architecture. The square hosts various events, markets, and performances throughout the year, adding to its lively atmosphere. During the Christmas season, it transforms into a magical realm with twinkling lights and festive melodies as it hosts the Advent Village.
