Despite its name, meaning 'New Bridge' in French, the Pont Neuf is the oldest bridge across the Garonne in Toulouse. Construction began in 1544 and concluded in 1632, a period marked by engineering challenges and the Garonne's unpredictable nature. King Francis I initiated the project with strategic interests in mind, envisioning the bridge as crucial for defense against Spain.The Pont Neuf stands as a masterpiece of Renaissance architecture.
