The Bassin du Miroir, a captivating water feature in the Gardens of Versailles, provides a tranquil retreat reflecting classical French landscape design. Constructed around 1702 under Louis XIV, the pool was designed by André Le Nôtre to complement the grand bassin de l'Île royale (now the Jardin du Roi). The reflecting pool mirrors the manicured lawns and architecture of the Château de Versailles, creating a serene atmosphere. The Bassin du Miroir is adorned with sculptures and stonework, enhancing its visual appeal. The widest lower level features groups of children, while the upper level showcases sculptured Cupids by Jean Hardy. Flanking the fountain are two impressive dragons, also carved by Hardy. The fountain is set across three levels, with five paths leading to it, creating a panoramic vista. Today, the Bassin du Miroir continues to enchant visitors with its beauty and historical significance. The pool sometimes hosts musical fountain shows, where water artistry combines with baroque music. The choreographed water displays create a sensory delight, making it a must-see destination within the Gardens of Versailles.
