Cathédrale de la Sainte-Trinité: A Glimpse of Russia in Paris

The Cathédrale de la Sainte-Trinité stands as a prominent symbol of Russian culture and Orthodox Christian faith in Paris. Consecrated in December 2016, the cathedral was built according to traditional Christian architectural principles, but it also incorporates Russian and Byzantine artistic styles, blending them with modern urban elements to integrate seamlessly into the Parisian landscape. The cathedral is the main church of the Diocese of Chersonese and the Patriarchal Exarchate in Western Europe for the Russian Orthodox Church. Services are held in Slavonic, French, and Moldavian, catering to a diverse congregation. In addition to regular liturgical services, the church also performs baptisms, weddings, and memorial services. The exterior of the building is striking, with its five gilded onion domes that reflect the Parisian light. Architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte cleverly used layered Burgundy stone to harmonize the Russian style with the Parisian environment. The cathedral complex includes not only the church but also a cultural center, a parish house, an auditorium, and a school. Visiting the cathedral offers a chance to appreciate the blend of architectural styles and experience the traditions of the Russian Orthodox faith. The interior features a choir led by Marina Politova, adding to the spiritual atmosphere during services.
