The stunning neoclassical chapel within the lycée is considered a masterpiece, having been completely restored in 2011. In 1792, the nuns were expelled, and Napoléon I transformed the site into a school for boys in 1803, later named Lycée Hoche in 1888 in honor of Lazare Hoche, a French general born in Versailles.The museum's collection primarily features scientific instruments used for teaching physics and natural sciences, some dating back to the 18th century when they were used to educate the children of France. Other items were acquired for the lycée's students in the 19th century.
