Walking
If you are near the ferry terminal at Vaiare, start by heading southwest towards the main road (Route de l'Assemblée). Once you reach the main road, turn right and continue walking along the coast for about 1.5 kilometers until you reach the junction with Route de Pihaena. At this junction, turn left onto Route de Pihaena. Follow this road for about 8 kilometers. As you approach Painapaopao, look for the signs directing you to pk 13.1. The Backpacker is located on the mountain side at pk 13.1.

Bicycle
If you have rented a bicycle, start from the ferry terminal at Vaiare. Cycle southwest towards Route de l'Assemblée and turn right onto the main road. Continue for about 1.5 kilometers, then turn left onto Route de Pihaena. Follow this road for approximately 8 kilometers, which will take you through beautiful coastal scenery. Look out for signs indicating pk 13.1; Painapaopao Backpacker will be on your left side once you reach that point.

Public Transport
From the ferry terminal at Vaiare, take a local bus (le truck) that is heading towards the Paopao area. Make sure to check with the bus driver for the correct route to Pihaena. Get off at the stop closest to pk 13.1. From there, it is a short walk uphill to Painapaopao Backpacker, which is located on the mountain side. Follow the signs for the backpacker once you are near pk 13.1.
