Anini Mara'e, located on the southern tip of Huahine-Iti, is a window into the island's rich Polynesian heritage. This ancient marae, a traditional Polynesian temple site, holds historical and spiritual significance. The site provides a serene backdrop for exploration and reflection with breathtaking views of the island's lush landscapes and tranquil waters. Visitors can explore the stone structures once used for religious ceremonies and communal gatherings. Appreciate the craftsmanship of the ancient Polynesians, who constructed these impressive formations without modern tools. The peaceful ambiance and picturesque setting make it ideal for photography and nature lovers. Constructed in the late 18th century, Anini Mara'e was commissioned by Ta'aroari'i, son of King Mahine of Huahine. Dedicated to 'Oro, the god of war, and Hiro, the god of thieves and sailors, the marae served as a community temple. Oral accounts suggest that at least 14 human sacrifices occurred here, though this has never been fully verified. The site was restored in 1969 and now stands as a testament to Polynesian architectural skills and spiritual beliefs.
