Car/Taxi
From downtown Papeete, the easiest way to reach the Fautaua Valley trailhead is by car or taxi. The journey takes approximately 10-15 minutes. Follow Avenue Pierre Loti to the end, where you'll find a parking lot at the hike's departure point. A taxi from Papeete to the trailhead will cost approximately 2,000-3,000 CFP.
Public Transport
On weekdays, you can take bus 8A TITIORO from the Papeete Town Hall bus terminal. The bus goes almost to the end of Fautaua Valley. Get off at the last stop, at a multi-sport court (Salle Omisports Pape Ora), then walk 10 minutes down the road to the entrance of the hike. A single bus fare costs around 200 CFP.
Permit
Before heading to the trailhead, obtain a permit from the Papeete Town Hall. The Department of Administration and Finance is located on the ground level, north side, and is open from 7:30 am to 2:30 pm Monday to Thursday, and until 1:30 pm on Fridays. The permit costs 600 CFP per adult and 150 CFP per child (12-17 years).
