    Discover more about Fa'aruma'i Waterfalls

Nestled in the heart of Hitiaʻa O Te Ra, the Fa'aruma'i Waterfalls present a captivating natural attraction, celebrated for their breathtaking beauty. This site features three distinct waterfalls that gracefully cascade into crystal-clear pools, creating a serene and inviting ambiance. The most accessible of the three is Vaimahuta, a short walk from the parking lot, plunging 262 feet (80 meters). The tallest, Haamaremare Rahi, reaches approximately 328 feet (100 meters), while Haamaremare Iti stands at 131 feet (40 meters). Legend says that the valley got its name from a princess named Fa'uai, whose father forbade her from speaking to men. She and her lover, Ivi, sought refuge behind the cascades. According to the tale, the three waterfalls were formed when the princess, her lover, and her guards were transformed into the cascades. The falls are easily accessible, making them a popular destination for both locals and tourists. The well-maintained path to Vaimahuta is an easy 5-minute walk, while the other two falls are a 15-20 minute hike away. The area is known for its lush vegetation, fed by the constant mist and spray from the falls. While swimming was once allowed, it is now prohibited due to the risk of falling rocks. However, the picturesque scenery and refreshing atmosphere make it a perfect spot for a peaceful retreat.
