Opening times, essentials, and a few local tips gathered into one calmer, easier-to-scan planning section.
Boat
The most practical way to reach Temoe Atoll is by boat from Mangareva, the largest and most accessible island in the Gambier Islands. Arrange for a local fisherman or a tour operator in Rikitea, the main village on Mangareva, to transport you to Temoe. The journey typically takes around 2-3 hours, depending on the weather conditions. Negotiate the fare in advance, which may cost around 20,000-30,000 XPF (approximately 170-250 USD) for a round trip, depending on the size of the boat and the duration of the stay. Ensure the boat operator is experienced and familiar with the waters around Temoe, as there is no navigable pass into the lagoon.
